Named selections are created using the select command. They enable the user to create a list of atoms which can be referred to over and over again.
Named selections are currently static. In other words, the list is not updated if new atoms are introduced into PyMOL that would match the original selection criteria. To include these new atoms, the user must reissue the associated select command.
